Hill Valley Golf Club reveals new leaders

16th April 2013

THE new captains and president of the Hill Valley Golf Club have been announced. The club is based at Hill Valley Spa, Hotel and Golf, part of the prestigious Macdonald Resorts & Hotels Group, in Whitchurch.

Martin Brisbourne, of Whitchurch, is the new Men’s Captain after serving as Vice-Captain and will be responsible for organising competitions and representing the club at functions.

“I’ve played golf since I was about 16 and was at school with Masters and Open winner Sandy Lyle,” said Martin who has been involved with the club since 1989 and has been on the committee for several years.

“Sandy qualified to play in the British Open when he was 16 and a party of us went along to watch and that’s what got me interested in the game.

“Being part of Hill Valley Club is great as the courses are really exceptional and everyone is very friendly.”

Ladies Captain is Irene Stiles, of Whitchurch, and the President remains Martin Fowles, of Whitchurch.

Irene’s duties as Ladies Captain include organising events for the lady golfers, such as three Charity Texas Scramble competitions which will be held in aid of Shropshire Child Contact Centres.

“I started playing golf in my late forties as my husband and son both played and I joined Hill Valley three years ago when I moved here,” said Irene.

“The two courses at Hill Valley are very different to each other but both are challenging so it is a great place to play.”

Members of the golf club are able to practice their sport on the hotel’s two 18 hole courses and play in the Shropshire and Herefordshire Union.

The club also organises competitions most weekends at Hill Valley which has recently completed an extensive refurbishment of its sports bar with a golf theme, including being re-named the Masters Bar.

There are also plans to build a Halfway House next to the 10th tee on the Emerald Course where hot and cold refreshments will be served all day

“Our golfing facilities are among the best in the UK and we are hopeful of a much better summer this year so our members and visitors can really appreciate what we have to offer,” said Terence Southward, General Manager of Hill Valley.
