New Chef Joins the TASTE kitchen to Add an Extra Local Flair

Shrewsbury chef Danny Silcock has taken to the helm at the TASTE kitchen bringing his own knowledge of local food and drink to the table. Danny has been appointed as the new HEART of ENGLAND fine foods (HEFF) Development Chef at the TASTE kitchen at Shropshire Food Enterprise Centre.

The TASTE kitchen serves only local food and drink using ingredients from producers in the heart of England region.  Living in Shrewsbury and having worked in a number of Shropshire restaurants, Danny is no stranger to the wide range of products available and is keen to put his stamp on the popular local food and drink venue.

Danny said: “I’m from Shropshire so local food and drink from the heart of England is a real passion of mine.  The sheer quality and diversity of the products from this region is fantastic.  It’s great to be able to support local businesses and I love working with local ingredients and making something new.”

Danny most recently worked as head chef at the Mytton and Mermaid and before that as head chef at Mad Jacks in Shrewsbury, gaining them their first rosette.  He trained in the town at Radbrook College whilst working at Hadley Park House Hotel and Restaurant in Telford.  He then went on to work at The Valley Hotel in Ironbridge before returning to Hadley Park House as head chef where he won the restaurant its first rosette at the age of 22.  Adding to this Danny also has the experience of running his own business - a coffee shop in Shifnal.

“I like to cook modern British dishes with a twist, using good flavours that work.  Even with the current climate people are still eating out, but the difference is that if they’re eating out for a treat they want to know what they’re eating and where it’s come from and in the TASTE kitchen we can tell them all about the producers,” he said.

“I love the diversity of the TASTE kitchen and the chance to work with just local products, it makes the place very unique.  The job itself is also diverse from catering for conferences and lunches to product development with producers and consumer tasting panels – every day is different.”

The TASTE kitchen at Shropshire Food Enterprise Centre, Battlefield Enterprise Park, is open Monday – Friday 8am-4pm and Saturday 10am-4pm.
